Top 7 Summer Events in Louisville, KY

The rainy season is over, school is out, and it’s time to have some fun. Before you plan a vacation away from home, check out all the awesome events that are happening right in your backyard in Louisville, KY this summer.
From outdoor concerts to unique food experiences, there is something for everyone this summer in the great city of Louisville, KY. So get out here and have some fun!
#1 – Abby Road on the River
The world’s largest Beatles-inspired music festival returns this Memorial Day weekend just across the river from Louisville, KY. Featuring bands like The Buckinghams, The Cowsills, and The Grass Roots, this is sure to be one exciting festival. This event includes over 50 bands, interactive art installations, food and bar services, and retail vendors. Tickets are available.  Come unite with fellow Beatles enthusiasts and sing the night away.

#2 – KyMBA Turkey Run
Grab your bike, a couple of friends, and get ready for this incredible experience. Take a leisurely ride through beautiful Turkey Run Park and afterwards hang out and enjoy a couple of cold adult beverages. The trail will travel clockwise on PAW PAW to Chinkapin and from there to Boulder Pond. Since this is a social ride, they will stop at all intersections to regroup before continuing on. The route back will be in reverse and head back on Hickory. Be sure to bring a helmet and a bike that is in good working condition. #3 – Old Fashion Ice Cream Social at Riverside
Who doesn’t like ice cream?! Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the banks of the Ohio River for an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social. This FREE family event will feature music, children’s activities, an ice cream eating contest and more! Throughout the afternoon, enjoy: pony rides, miniature train rides, a farm animal petting zoo, children’s games, Southwest Library Book Sale, dig with the archaeologists and tour the historic Farnsley-Moremen House. All activities are FREE.

#4 – Splash ‘n’ Dash Walk/Run
Runners and walkers can choose to splash their way through a 5k course or a kid-friendly 1k course filled with fun and refreshing ways to cool off in splash zones. Splash ‘n’ Dash benefits the lifesaving care available to the more than 180,000 children cared for at Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s facilities, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. Register to run/walk, join a team or create a team. 5k registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 17. 1k registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 17. Kids ages 4 and under are free but will not receive a t-shirt or bib. All registered participants will receive an official Splash ‘n’ Dash t-shirt and a personal fundraising page. Day-of registration fee is an additional $5.

Time: Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, 5k begins at 9 a.m., 1k begins at 10 a.m.

#5 – Chocolate Festival
Who doesn’t like chocolate!? This not-to-be-missed event will feature dazzling entertainment , spirits, light bites, silent auction, and, of course, plenty of chocolate. Bid on fabulous prizes while sampling on sweet treats. All proceeds benefit the Kentuckiana AIDS Alliance. Each guest is asked to make a minimum $45 tax-deductible donation to help the cause.

#6 – Kentucky State Fair
Colossal cattle, trotting horses, handcrafted heirlooms, flashy games, novelty foods, and dizzying rides—these are the constants of the Kentucky State Fair. They are the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that the visitors to the Fair encountered in 1902 and they are still a major part of the fair experience today, more than one hundred years later. People come in crowds every year to Louisville, KY to experience all that the Fair has to offer. Don’t miss out on this yearly event. Hope to see you there!

#7 – Forecastle
Founded in 2002 by Louisville native JK McKnight, Forecastle has grown from a small, community event to one of the nation’s most anticipated summer festivals. Drawing tens of thousands of fans from across the world to Louisville, KY’s scenic 85-acre Waterfront Park. Experience live music on a scale you do not want to miss.
